    Project Database

This page contains the database of possible research projects for master and bachelor students in the Biorobotics Laboratory (BioRob). Visiting students are also welcome to join BioRob, but it should be noted that no funding is offered for those projects (see https://biorob.epfl.ch/students/ for instructions). To enroll for a project, please directly contact one of the assistants (directly in his/her office, by phone or by mail). Spontaneous propositions for projects are also welcome, if they are related to the research topics of BioRob, see the BioRob Research pages and the results of previous student projects.

782 – Radio communication module on 169.4 MHz
    Show details
    Category:semester project
Keywords:C, Communication, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Firmware, Radio
    Type:10% theory, 50% hardware, 40% software
    Responsible: (MED 1 1025, phone: 36630)
    Description:
The goal of this project is to develop a bidirectional serial link using a CC1120 radio chip on 169.4 MHz. A prototype currently exists, but has several issues. The project should finalize the prototype to a final product, which includes:
    • Redesigning the printed circuit boards so they will be usable as-is by the final users
    • Improving the communication software to remove existing issues (which mainly happen at low speed) and improve stability
    • Implementing a very simple TUI on the microcontroller to allow users to select a remote device and test communication
    • Adding flow control on the robot side
    Requirements for the project are:
    • Previous experience with electronic design, ideally PCB design
    • Microcontroller programming in C
    • Basics of communication (UARTs, flow control, protocols)
